The MKL entry also includes several on-line videos of the MG42 assembly & disassembly, as well combat action, plus there's a contemporary one that shows a U.S. owner (lucky guy) letting loose with an entire 250 round belt in one long burst. Not good for the barrel, but certainly fun to do, at least once.

I picked up a rather nice India Pattern Brown Bess repro yesterday. Pics to follow. Yes, I know... repros and all... but I'm going to shoot it and would never do that to an original ;)

Bought at Loyalist Arms.

Nice G43 :)

The Swede is an M96, by the way.

Sigismund

thansk for the confirmation, I wasnt completely sure it was indeed a m96.

out of the three the no4 is the best looking and prettiest, but the g43 is the most interesting.

I ought to to a foto comparing the gas system of a g43 next to a svt40

Alright, got the camera out after cleaning the m96 and g43.

The g43 is a vopo, EP'd magazine, bolt, lugs etc, but the receiver, stock and bolt cover all match, as originally marked.

The uf no4mk2 is all matching, the bayo is a no9mk1, the barrel is still in the grease, and the finish is 101%, this is in better condition than even my newly produced firearms.

the m96 is all matching except the floor plate, a real beuty, but im wondering if i want to keep it, I think I'll buy a box of ammo and then decide.

Outstanding pics, Sigismund. Nice rifles too.;)

Why don't you take some more of the No4 and G43 so we can add them to the Library?

Sigismund

I have a few items I think are deserving of library status, once time permits I think ill take a bunch of pictures and do a write up. Im thinking the g43, the enfield, the 1911 and maybe a p.38, and if needed be yet another k98k, although there are already quite a few fine examples up already.

Maybe the easter show will grant me a righteous M1 carbine!!!

Ok, here's this month's addition. Sadly, not an original, but a working reproduction.

3rd Model, India Pattern Brown Bess from Loyalist Arms.

I rather like it, though the most obvious flaw is that the lock plate markings are in the wrong font. Should be fun to shoot once my Lyman .735" round ball mould arrrives.

That BSW really cleaned up nice :) It would look even better if the receiver was lightly polished with 400grit to get rid of the blead blasted looking finish and then re-blued caustically. What the heck eh? If you're restoring it anyhow...

Would the serial numbers have been all matching when originally issued?

Would the serial numbers have been all matching when originally issued?

I gather from stencollector, that they were just issued out without a lot of attention to making sure the sets were all serial numbered, as there wasn't any necessity or value in it. I've never seen a fully matched set.... :)

Here's a teaser for this month's acquisition that I've been hinting at ;)

Glad to hear it still goes bang. Something that was adopted ca 1934?

I think that would be a safe guess ;) It also has lots of evil chicken stamps on it ;)

Although I guessed it on the CGN forum, I believe I am still entitled to my cookie.

As mentioned, Im green with jelousy, Very nice SA MG34.

tiriaq
04-26-2007, 08:26 PM
Last one of these I shot was the same make, '45 dated, CA, had lots of intact chickens, also had the Hebrew stamps, adjacent to the birds. I was impressed with its accuracy.

Stevo
04-26-2007, 09:34 PM
I don't know what year or make it was, or if the markings were intact or not, but the last MG-34 I shot was full auto. Apparently, it was also somewhat worn out.

The last 40-ish rounds in my belt went down range in one single burst even though I'd taken my finger off the trigger. Dirt was flying from 50-500m out in front of me. It was quite a handful to get back under control, but very, very, very much fun.

Got to shoot a FA MP-38 and Bren at that shoot too. Ah, the good old days.:(

Claven2
04-27-2007, 06:59 AM
Yeah, I think there's a reason the belts were usually only 50 rds long on the MG series weapons. Like many machineguns, if the original sear design got worn, damaged, or overly peened, they'd run away. The high cyclic rate also means that the runaway won't last all that long though ;)

While a full-auto one is DEFINITELY the way to go, I honestly don't know ANYONE grandfathered back far enough who also owns an MG34 that still rocks and rolls... barring pre-68 registered automatics in the US, that is.

I've shot and played with 3 FA, MG42s here. Of course that was in the day that the 7-11 stores had to be worried about being robbed with the 50 year old SAW. Now they are safe.
