The memory is gone. I am looking at a M1903 GG stock with 2 stock bolts. The only clear makre is a small "S" on the tip. I think the stock is a Springfield and not an RIA. Is there a time frme for the small S.

It depends what size the "S" is. If about 1/8", it is a Springfield - they used a small S until (I believe) about 1912-1914 or so.
If a larger (@ 1/4") S, the stock is probably from Rock Island. They used an S until production (temporarily) ceased in 1913. When production resumed in 1917, they used an "RI" on the foretip.
