I received an email from MILSURPS.COM member Amatikulu. He graciously forwarded a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet of information on No.32 scopes for the Enfield No.4(T) sniper rifle, which he got some years ago from a Dutch collector called Harry Bindels. I've converted the current spreadsheet to a universal PDF file and I'll try to contact Harry and get it updated, if possible. The spreadsheet has Dutch language headers, but there's a translation table at the very bottom to understand what they mean.

In essence it's a spreadsheet that attempted to track various scopes by serial number, as to where they were officered for sale, who sold them and also who bought them.

Know someone who could use Watson MkI 1423 and HBMCo. 3511

I'd be interested in MKII No.15169

PS: If posters here would put the numbers in bold face it would be easier for quick scanning of the pages.

Hi I have what I think to be one of the 1944 Canadian LONG BRANCH No.4 Mk I *'s that were not stamped with the "T" designation, Sn# 71L0xxx . The number by the top of the wrist is "C-307" if it is a legitamate rifle, would that be the the scope number that I would be looking for, for a restoration?

Two No32 scopes no longer with their original rifles:

No32 MkI S/N 7636 formerly belonging to at least two other rifles- you have appropriate rifle S/N, then maybe we work out swap. It works very well and is my first No32 scope, so I'm kinda attached. Might rather swap rifles or something.

No32 MkII S/N 9335- but no bracket comes w/ it! Works fine, its on my most accurate No4(T). Will swap for another MkII scope that is in good working order or a scope number that I'm hunting. (See Rifles Looking for Scopes, please.)

I just found what I believe is a first production run No 32 Mk 1 HCM Co REG 3958 with original rings and JG mount. The scope is in good condition with original finish but the brass is showing in places.

I would love to find the rifle for this scope or ANY matching parts. Please feel free to PM me if you have any comments about this scope. I believe it's a VERY rare first production run from the original first contract awarded to HCM circa 1941.

Nice find Wats6831. It's not my impression that an HBM scope from the 3000 range is that unusual. I had several in the past, including one numbered 3057, which was a bit unique in that it was dated 1941 in the engraved markings. That was apparently dropped for "security" reasons shortly after.

The reason there are so many MkI scopes around is that there was a post-war refurbishment program that replaced perhaps most of them with later types. I was told by a now deceased surplus dealer in the UK who specialized in optics in a very big way, that his firm had bought about 5000 MkI scopes from the MoD during the 1950s and used to sell them for 5.00 each in the case with the mounts. Mind you, 5 was about an average week's wage in 1950 and it hadn't changed much by 1960 from what I've read!

Thanks for the information. Considering reproductions of these scopes are going for several hundred USD. Especially considering it was made during the first production run, and no more than 4,000 of these can be existence. I had thought that "early" scopes had an added meaning but sounds like not. From what I can tell these are starting to bring quite a premium. Thanks again.
