I have a box of shotgun shells that I believe are Vietnam era, USGI issue. The box is marked :

10 CTGS, 12 gage
SHOTGUN PLASTIC CASE
N0.00 BUCKSHOT XM162

LOT WCC 6034

The packaging is dated Jan. 63

Can someone tell me what the XM162 designates?

Thanks, Greg V

It's the Military designation for the plastic No. 00 buckshot. The "XM162" designation was adopted around the time of the Vietnam War.

Greg, I believe it is just the identifying ordnance number that specifies PLASTIC OOB ROUNDS. It is the same number given to all the plastic OOB ammo regardless of manufacturer. BOB
