455 bullets

Well I took the hit and got some 455 brass. Everyone and there mom says Lee dies are the way to go, I am a RCBS man myself but I do not cast bullets anyone here know of anyone who does cast bullets for this behemoth. Also need a recipe, cannot find much data for this girl or at least a book name. Still about 3 feet of snow up this way so you can still find your cases its hard and crunchy. much thanks

Biggest problem is projectiles. Only RCBS makes a conical mold for .455

Lee makes some molds that'll work, but they don't (usually) shoot as well as the conicals do :(

I cast and shoot the 265gr. bullet from the RCBS mould for the webley which work very well. I find they will not shoot very well from my New service or the hand eject but any 250gr. bullet .454 dia. for the colt shoot well through these.

So a Colt 45 250grain Lead round nose would work also? Want to stay with the original load, but a second one would be nice

I to am an RCBS man but the 455 Webley dies are special order from them and cost $75 US when I got them. I understand Lee carries them all the time. I get my bullet 265 gr RNHP (RCBS mold) form OMA bullets at 604-299-6335 in Burnaby. Al at OMA got the RCBS mold and has been making bullets for me. Soft or hard lead ones work great in my MK 1 455 Webley.

I use 5 gr of 700 X powder. Good grouping, nice recoil.

We got 2 feet of snow on our range and I was shooting my 455.

I have some old 455 Colt brass and find occassionaly I get case separation at the base of the case. Its old brass and who knows how many times it has been used.

I got last year at the Dawson Creek gun show 455 Webley MK II brass from Bulleye Reloading Supplies 780-835-4648.

The 455 Webley Mk II brass is just shorter than the 455 Colt so you will have to adjust your bullet seater die.

My old webley is an antique so I can take it with me when I go for walks in the bush or canoeing.

The old .455 Colt and dominion cases were balloon-head casings. They fail more rapidly than modern solid-based casings do.

If you don't mind using the shorter MkII cases, it's worth buying a box or two of the Fiocci .455 ammo just to get the brass. It's solid-based and should last much longer.

I picked up some of the expensive Hornady brass looks very nice. Might have to take a hit and buy a box of fiocchi though, furthermore may have to ship the old girl out for a timing job number six cylinder does not index all the way, This is my first webley I am a wheel gun man by choice and have all the big names, but this Webley sits wonderfully in my hand, and the overengineered British work you have to love it if only to look at it there would be a lot of screws in one of them webleys.

I would go with the RCBS hollow base Webley mould. By the way, they do make TWO moulds. One for the standard bullet and the other for the wadcutter "Manstopper" You will find some difficulty loading for the second bullet as the Lee dies are set up for a conical bullet and often hang on to it when you pull the round out.
Of course I have enough webleys to make buying the proper mould worthwhile.

Note: Fiocchi ammo is HOT. I wouldn't use it in a Mk1 or Mk2.

Does anyone know where black power loading data can be found? I have an old British Bulldog .450 Adams made pre 1893(can shoot .455's) that I would like to shoot, but I don't want to use the fiocchi factory stuff as it is probably a little hot for this. I would prefer to go with a light black powder load, possibly even with a smaller bullet.

Well for one, you cannot overload a Black powder case.
The original load would be 13gr of FG
