to different diameter discs for the bolt takedown in the 98k buttstock? I just purchased two 98k laminated stocks and one has the commonly encountered 30mm diameter disc but the other has a 25mm disc. Any significance of this as to manufacturer or time period, or is this just an unexplained contractor variation? Thanks. BTW, there are no waffenamts that I can see on either stock.

I have noticed that and pending further info, am inclined to treat it as just a contractor variation. The outside diameter has no significance at all, except for a uniform appearance.

In my limited collection of K98k's, about 20., the large ones start at 1940, altho one 1940 is a small one. I think it is date connected starting in the 1940 time period. My note book, that I take to gun shows, confirms this. I do not remember where the info came from but was from a book.

Other notes in the same vain: 12 clean rod-1940, Cup butt plate- announced Jan.'40, laminate stock-1938, solid upper band-1942, (both in 1942), blued bayo lug-1939, frnt site hood-annoce. Dec.39, rear site marks on top only-late '42, letter codes-beginning of' '42, stmped bands & TG/mag-'43. You must keep in mind, these were change overs, old parts were used up. I have had rifles with stamped TG and milled floor plate (matched).
