I have 4 boxes of this 8mm ammo

Does anyone know if it is corrosive? The writing is not using the latin or arabic alphabet, so I am guessing it is Russian (that and sthe start) and therfore suspect. I pulled a bullet and it was 198 grains over 41 grains of a large flake powder. The cases are brass and look to be Berdan primed, but with a center hole so they may be reloadable.

Thanks

I have used this ammo in my Portuguese mauser (see thread on re barrel) this wasnt the cause of the barrel replacement but i do remeber it was hit and miss if it would go off, usually on the second strike it would fire!! as for corrosive i dont know, anything like this i would treat as corrosive. better safe than sorry.

To me the way to treat corrosive ammo is not to use it. :)

The language doesn't matter as much as the obvious fact that the ammo is several decades past its "bang by" date! A friend tried shooting ammo of this vintage in a Dragunov last weekend. I now have an interesting collection of cases separated and split in various ways, for educational purposes, and he has decided to break down the rest of the 400 "bargain" pack so he can at least use the bullets!

Yes, it is corrosive. The ammo is Yugoslavian manufacture. I have heard comments that the primers are somewhat hard in this ammo and if you install a 22 lb spring you will have no problems as misfires are almost always due to a light strike on the harder primer.
