Colt AR-22

While at the Montgomery[AL] gun show two weeks ago I saw 2 Colt AR-22 rifles. Has anyone here tried one out yet? Nick

Well, I'll answer my own question. I got a close look today and it's not a Colt. It's Umarex with the Colt name on it.No AR-15 parts interchange and the longest,dumbest, banana mag. you ever saw! If it isn't any better than the "Colt" [Umarex] CO 2 1911a1 style pistol I guess I have my answer. Nick

I took a look at one of the M4 versions at my dealer's last week; Colt/Umarex, made by Walther. Quality looked OK, though, as you mentioned, parts won't interchange with an AR, and the 30 round mag is long (they do have 10 rounders, too). The dealer said they're flying out the door, and seem to function well. I'd considered one, but would rather have a dedicated 22LR upper for match practice with my original trigger and stock.

Wow, thanks guys for your input. I was just being ribbed by a friend for ordering a dedicated upper to be built a month ago. He thought I was an idiot for paying just as much for it as one of these new complete "COLTS". I was was even second guessing myself and thought about cancelling the order because it hadn't been started yet. I think I am going to stick with the original plan now.

Does anyone have any experiece with TACTICAL SOLUTIONS for complete dedicated .22 cal uppers? I hear they are one of the best out there and saw them taking lots of orders at their booth at the Phoenix NRA convention.

I have owned one for about two weeks. It has the looks and feel of my M4 LE carbine. The weight is about the same. The Carl Walther quality and workmanship is evident. I put an EOTECH HWS on it and it is fun to shoot. The best feature is that it is adjustable to the type of .22's you are shooting. It will work with any ammo from CCI MINIMAGS to Aguila 60 gr subsonics. The 30 rd mag is too long to be practical. My rifle set me back $535.00 and has a complete, removeable, adjustable M4 sight assembly along with the Colt Horsey on the lower. A Colt rifle with a complete set of sights for $535 or just an upper for $610.... Hmmmm?

I have put about 1,000 rounds thru my M4 OPS 22lr in the last couple of week...well, me and about a dozen others that shot it over the 4th holiday. FUnctions well but as with most 22s, cheap 22s can be finicky, but you can adjust the bolt spring to make it run better. Looks and feels just like the real mccoy and several folks picked up last Sat and thought they had the 223 version that was sitting next to it...including yours truly!

For the $$, I think they are worth it.

BTW, Umarex is just the importer....Walther in Germany makes them and Colt sticks their name on them. Quality does seem to be pretty darn good.

Mags are long but pretty heavy duty.
