Dave Price here:
I need a "Magazine cover spring" AKA loading port cover spring for a M1941. Any leads will help.

Thanks

Both SARCO and Numrich Gun Parts Corp. have them.

Numrich was out, Sarco said they had some. We'll see what shows up. Thanks!

When you get it , you'll see that it can go in two ways. Match the spring leg to the wear pattern on the body. If you put it in upsidedown , you'll have an 8-shooter (I know). Chris

It must have been installed correctly, 'cuz its the one I ended up with, and it holds 10! Thanks for the tip though.:D

BTW The blood welts on my shoulder caused by the ill-fitting toe of the butt plate are fading.;)

:mad:Prepping to shoot this Friday, I broke the Johnson out of "prison", checking the magazine for ammo before opening the bolt and declaring it "clear", so guess what happened--- PING!--- goes the mag cover spring. Errrrrr... What's up w/ that? No excessive force or travel opening the "trap door", the first spring breakage was explainable, but this is a mystery. Dang thing was supposed to be Marine-proof!!!:bitch:

You are dealing with an almost 70 year old strip of spring!

Mr. Price recalled that his old Johnson had a coil spring to close the mag cover, so I went and slipped in 3 old VCR cassette springs /w no modification to the mag assembly, and it seems to be a viable repair!

Will try w/ some heavier gage spring stock today and see.

Made three springs until I figured that ONE single spring wouldn't be as strong as I would like. SO made two 0.032" wire dia. 4 coil springs that work in parallel on the mag cover pin.

No mods to the rifle! Dry runs OK! Must have had the rifle torn down twenty time today, though.

I think the takedown pins would be easily lost in the field as sometimes they will just fly out whilst pulling on them with a cartridge rim.
