I traded for this rifle many years ago from a fellow that said it was a DCM rifle; unfortunately he didn't have the papers to give it documented provenance:

C&R,
That is truly a nice rifle. I hope you are taking it to the range once in a while! They really like that, and reward you by shooting ungodly accurate ...

Thanks for the compliments Chuck and jn.
Yes, its a great shooter and I think has to be mechanically the smoothest BA rifle I have ever shot.

I can second the motion on the accuracy and smoothness! I bought my only Krag as a cut-down stock sporter last October and I restored it over the winter with replacement front band, handguard and stock extension piece, along with a repro sling. Sadly, the cartouche was sanded off long before I got it but the serial number (189335) dates it to April 1899. With moderate handloads (45 Gr. IMR 4350 & 180 Gr. Hornady RN), it is a great shooter and, given my 69 year old eyes, groups as well as the best of my Springfields, Enfields or Mausers.

. . . given my 69 year old eyes, groups as well as the best of my Springfields, Enfields or Mausers.
jisii, sounds like we're in the exact same age group and I would say your 69 year old eyes and, more important, patience and dedication paid off in doing a great job in the restoration of an old "warrior". Nice work! Thanks for sharing.

That is a sweet looking Krag. Hey Jisii, where did you get the sling?
