Gents,

I snapped some close-up photos of a rather special rifle.

I believe it's one of only 99 that were built....though I could be incorrect.

This rifle is as close to a "Current issue" Lee Enfield Sniper as you will find in Canada. In fact, it was issued last September to 2 fine shooters as their trophy for being the top CF Regular Force Sniper Pair at CFSC at Connaught. Amusingly, they were a Sailor and an Airman.

Anyhow, on to the rifle....(as an aside, the pistol in the photos is the Allard trophy for the top 4 person CF Regular Force pistol team....won by the MARLANT team last year at CFSAC.) Both trophies spent most of the past year in the Admiral's Conference room.... :super:

A lovely trophy.
A pity they had to use such a big, ugly, gob of weld.

We have rifle 0022, tele 4419 plus a second at Warminster.

From this set of photos, you can see the problems facing Base Workshops when they had to unbreech and breech-up to re-barrel. Because the rifle mount has to be removed (on our breeching up kit anyway.....) you cannot mount the telescope back onto the rifle to ensure that the barrel you have selected is the best for collimation. Well, you COULD, but it'd mean replacinng barrel and bracket a few times before you got the right barrel.

If you don't understand what I'm saying, just remember that the optical axis of the telescope is aligned with the bore of THAT barrel and THAT barrel isn't necessarily the same as another barrel so we selected the best barrel for optical collimation....................

The forward extention of the mount interfered w/ the breeching tool, yes?

Yep, that's the trouble with these rifles. But I don't suppose that many have been through our Base Workshop programme
