I see that Jean at P&S Guns & Militaria (click here) ( ttp://psmilitaria.50megs.com/frame.html) has lower prices on these new importred Garands.

Here's a typical ad on his New Arrivals (http://psmilitaria.50megs.com/newitems.html) page.

(PS)- US Issue M-1 Garand Rifle, made by Springfield Armory Barrel dated 19, worn finish on metal, many dents and dings on stock, Nice Bore, cal. 30-06 Gov., Good to VG cond., $599.00 Can + shipping. (Canadian F.A.C. or P.A.L. required). View it. (In stock ready for immediate delivery)

Jean's a great guy to deal with, so personally, if I were shopping for one of these import deals and wanted to make sure I was treated right, it would be through Jean. Tell him Badger sent you....

Note: My opinion is personal and doesn’t necessarily express the views of the Military Surplus Collectors Forums, or its membership.

X2. I've bought from Milarm' and been pleased, but I'd pay 10% more for the same described and pictured gun from P&S by virtue of his excellent service and the accuracy (under-described if anything) of his ads.

IF these newly imported Garands are at NRA Very Good Condition they are in my opinion a very good value in current market conditions. Garand prices in Canada have lagged the American market for some time. At a Minneaoplis gun show in 1995 Garands in NRA VG were at the $500-$600 US dollar range let alone eleven years later. On the CGN board NRA VG Garands are selling for $600 to $800 routinely.
With sincere apologies to Shakespeare, "Gather ye Garands (er rosebuds) while ye may!". P&G and Jean are great to deal with in my experience as well.

For the record, I have bought somewhere around 20 (probably more) milsurp rifles from Jean now over the years since I started doing business with him (2001) and speak with him on the phone semi-regularly about various pieces in his inventory.

P&S has bar-none THE most personal service in Canada. Sometimes their prices are marginally higher than the bigger volume sellers, but the value-added service and detailed pics of every rifle prior to purchase more than make up for any price differential IMHO. And Jean DOES under-rate his rifles.

Word on the street is Milarm is getting 80 more. We shall see.

Has word on the street figured out who's importing them? I'm hesitant to buy a mixmaster with craptacular wood for $630-$700 when I hear some people saying they see lots for $400-$500... if the importer sells them direct for cheaper than maybe.

As I understand it, the imported wholesaled them all thus far. No direct sales - yet.

Interesting. So the importer is doling them out in small batches to at least two retailers. Easy no fuss sales for him.

Here's a theory: perhaps the importer is picking out and holding back the best of the bunch, and once the retailers are sold out, will put them on the market himself. That way you don't compete with the retailers, and your hold-backs go on sale after the market has been saturated with beaters. Those waiting for the better ones then go bananas.

Or a counter theory: The importer does not want to be directly connected with the rifles due to their condition, thereby damaging his reputation.

If the beaters are selling for $600+ and the VG for $800-ish, it's not too likely the importer would be able to sell held-back nice ones for more money than that.

Well, theories aside, P&S had first pick of these rifles and I know they hand-selected theirs before anyone else got to look at them.

Take that for what it's worth ;)

And PS: No, I didn't hear that from Jean (I don't repeat much of what Jean talks about, or he wouldn't talk to me at all anymore ;) )- a different (and reliable) little birdie told me...

You don't need a little birdie to tell Jean gets the first pick of the litter. Thats how he ends up with ex-snipers, hex reciever tula 1944 m44, etc. For such a relatively small store his misurp connections stretch way out there.

Yeah, Jean does know all the major players - no doubt.
