My Buddy offered a trade again, he loves 8 m/m and I kinda lean on the 7.62X54R, so I just ended up with a real nice, Ukrainian re-built, Izzy 91/30, DDR. I took it to the range for a test ride and although it shoots about a foot high at 100 yards, the groups were very tight with light ball and opened a little with the heavy stuff, all in all not bad. I guess I should stick with E-Bloc collectibles for awhile. Whos to say how long they will be in circulation-:super:SDH

I'm re-posting this due to a small problem with post's. Its a neat M-44 I traded a close friend for a 8 m/m near mint Turk Mauser. I've been needing a Polish gun for the M.N. collection and this one fits nicely. Because of the condition, I don't think I'll be shooting it as mush as the other guns that I put through the paces. It's a nicely marked 1951 vintage M-44 with all things looking correct including the beech stock-SDH:super:

Found the compass at an Ontario gun show sitting in a wooden box.....
The cutter is mounted on a Candadian 1918 No.1 MkIII* ShtLE...
I put this two pieces in the MKL along with some videos of the cutter shown working on a rifle. Check it out under the Englans section of the library.
Thanks for the feedback ... :)

Ok, she arrived ..... :super:
I've prepared a 316 detailed picture photo montage for entry into the Milsurp Knowledge Library, but I still have to label all of the descriptive captions. :p
In the meantime, here's a quick peek ....

Bottom line, I'm more than excited about this acquisition. Although I already had a 1939 Oberndorf in the collection, this new arrival turned out to be a real sleeper from a collectors point of view.
The condition is terrific and this rifle matches all the way down to the firing pin, with even the guard screws and release latch screw being serial numbered to the rifle. Of the 279,078 rifles reportedly manufactured by Oberndorf in 1939, only a random few were made with the traditional walnut stock. This turned out to be one of them. The majority were made with laminated stocks, the result of trials that had stretched through the 1930s.
The second bonus that was a real pleasant surprise is who it was made for. Besides Oberndorf's WaA63 stock markings (see pics), it's also marked with an "L" (Eagle above it), indicating it was manufactured for the Luftwaffe!
It's even acknowledge in Law's book that it is very rare to find K98's with the "L" Luftwaffe marking, as opposed to the more usual "H" Heer (Army) stamps.
So, all in all, I'm one happy camper. :D
Maybe I'll put the other 1939 Code 42 Oberndorf (http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=75) up for auction. ;)
I'll get the photo montage entry completed as I find time and then post it up for everyone to view.

A very fine looking 98, The question becomes, how could you top that one? Like after you get a 220 lb 12 point white tail, all else just isn't the same. Enjoy-SDH

The artillery was still using the identical compass when I left the service 4 years ago....identical except in mills instead of degrees. Some of the ones we had were even WW2 and /1\ marked. Apparently these compasses were extremely accurate, which is a nice feature when you are lobbing bombs several miles away.
