I have a Romanian single shot heavy barrel .22 cal rifle manufactured at Cugir in 1955 with the UMC banner on the top of the receiver. I always assumed it's some type of military trainer built on a look-alike mauser action. There is a slight bulge in the rifling halfway down the barrel which doesn't seem to affect the accuracy. My problem is that I can't seem to find any history on these rifles. Does anyone know for certain if these were military trainers or commercial target rifles?

Dunno about the history, but there are three or four in varying states at the A.W. Peterson Gun Shop in Mount Dora, FL. One even has a rear sight.
