I don't know if it was misrepresented... They stated this:

"This is an unusual example of a Smith & Wesson model 10 shotgun that has either been produced or modified to a trench style shotgun."

There must have been an S&W collector that really really wanted this.... But 4K?

S&W 916 pump, made into something its not.
USP is engraved, as is the U.S. and bomb. those are Winchester markings anyway.
reproduction heatsheald, bad park job..
the 916 is a shotgun first made by Noble, way after WW2. the Remington M10 is nothing like this shotgun.
im surpised that this auction house would sell such a humped up POS.

what do you think of that crossed cannon cartouche on the blued model 12? Is that just a mis-strike? Looks pretty poor. What do the experts say on that? Other than that, a great looking gun. There are a bunch of interesting riots in the auction as well.

Interesting study as to how these threads go off the rails.

1. I read the original auction - I didn't anywhere that it said the shotgun was WW2 production.

2. The auction description is (was) faulty in describing it as a model 916 in the heading and a "model 10" in the body of the descritption.

3. Of all the BS in both forums i don't see anything proving that S&W never made military styled riot guns (so-called "trench" guns). Considering their place in the Law enforcement market why wouldn't they - particulay during the Vietnam era when they could have sold anything to anybody.

S&W 916 dint come out until well after 1972,
i got one for Christmas in 1975 from my dad, tough ol shotgun, never missed a lick.
the 916 is a Noble M60 dressed up a bit, then the 916T takedown.
the 916P was sold to law inforcment, and security companys..
price was good, mine was 95.00 new at the TG&Y stores...

I think the stock markings are OK. The crossed cannons look like they may have been a light strike on a particularly thick spot of varnish. The markings on Winchester shotguns are sometimes tough to see as these were applied over a commercial finish, not just an oil finish. Photo of mine with a much cleaner strike below:

What did strike me as odd are the burnished areas around the small Ordnance Bomb and Winchester PW proof on the barrel as well as the markedly different color difference between the barrel and receiver. My M12 Trench Gun doesn't exhibit that:
