I don't know myself, but check the "stickied" thread at top of forum titled Blueprints and Specifications for the Springfield M1 Garand .30 Caliber Service Rifle....
Perhaps that info is in those PDF files?

They are little round head, slotted brass wood screws. My 90's lottery "D" came from CMP with the cheekpad having never been mounted on the stock... or if it was it was never screwed down to place. The screws were provided but I have never installed them.

Man, that's a "leap of faith", putting screw holes into your M1 stock.....

Yeah that's why I didn't do it. Just laced the cheekpad on.

Have some in the spares box, but don't recall the size. If no one gets the size quick I'll try and find 'em. Might be a few days though!

I think the screws are 1/2 inch No. 7 round head. Maybe 9/16 inch.

Mine measure 0.134" OD on the unthreaded portion and about 3/4" long, not including the head.

TM9-1275 , page 77, shows the screws installed in the grommets of the cheek pad. ). 0.10" holes in the stock. This is for the WWII era stocks, and post-war. (1947)
CMP rifles from the auctions (usually) already have the holes drilled in the stocks. But they are straight in-line with the center of the bottom of the stock. So you need to drill a hole thru the leather cheekpad.
In practice, the troopers actually drilled the holes anywhere they wanted, and did not follow any "rule".

Good Evening All,
The M1C's and D's that I have show subtle variations in the way the cheek pieces were mounted, laced and secured. Some were fastened with brass screws. A few were not. The one thing I always looked for on a stock to determine if the screws were original (or had been there quite awhile) was verdigris around the head. One thing to remember is that this should be monitored as too much "growth" will cause the grommets to pull loose. I occasionally have to knock the excess of of the ones I have.
Best Always,
Michael

Those are a bit shorter, but otherwise the same as the ones pulled out of the M1D's here.

FWIW In my experience the screws were necessary to prevent the cheek pad from sliding forward.

Jim
