Does anybody know the SN block for Type 1 NM rifles?

Same as the Type 2 NM. The majority were SA 5.2 to the 6 M receivers.
Type 2 NM rifles are nothing more than rebuilt Type 1.
There are no "blocks," they were selected from the above serial ranges
randomly with the exception of a few WW2 receivers used
when the supply of new receivers was exhausted in 1959.

Yes, drawn from new production rifles that shot well in the standard targeting tests done on every gun. Selection in 1953 and 1954 was done in Feb-Mar, moved back to Jan-Mar in 1955 and Dec '55 to Mar '56 in 1956 and beyond as soon as the post-Perry conference determined what could be improved in the coming shooting season.

Officially, only DCM sales papers and they only come with sales documentation if they were part of the old DCM "Sales and Donations" program. All others are "wishful thinking and hoping" regardless of what their composition is. CMP can assist with an old DCM sales look-up from their RIA documents for a small fee.

Unofficially, experience and a trained eye for what that's worth. Bob Seijas is the best at that.

And to put a cap on this, condition means everything. You can find all the beat-up NM and quasi NM rifles you want because many were used for what they were intended for: competitive shooting.

That "T" would have meant that the rifle had been "targeted". I think.

Yes, but it's not foolproof -- a lot of issue rifles got two T's if they failed the first time and were re-tuned. And more failed the first time than you would think. A Type 1 has to have DCM docs or stand out at 20 paces to be top tier.

That would simply tell me that the rifle was so nice, they had to target it twice!!! :madsmile:
