    WWII Garand stock value?

The quick story. I had a M1C replica built as a gift about 18 years ago. Got the gun back this past year. It had been sitting in the safe the whole time. He was too ill to really play with it.

I took it over to DGR Gun Restorations (a couple hours from me) for a tech inspection. He tweaked a couple minor things on the rifle; however, the stock had a problem. The trigger guard isn't locking up tight enough on the stock. I could have the stock glass bedded; however, Dean said that would ruin the value of the stock. I'm going to get a new stock because I'm going to shoot this thing.

The question is, what is this stock worth?

It didn't come with the rifle, but it does match the serial number range on the gun. I've checked gunbroker.com; but, there seems to be some unrealistic sellers out there. Or, maybe I'm just not up on Garandicon part prices?

A few small dents near the front sling swivel on the right side.

The stock has not been re-finished, and Dean (DGR Gun Restorations) was amazed at it's condition. He wouldn't speculate on the value.

    Thanks for any input.
    Mike

That is a great looking stock. Someone restoring a nice late 1944 to late 45 rifle will pay a good price for that stock. One problem getting what the stock is worth is the fact people are shell shocked by all the phony stamps on the market. Alot of new collectors may have a hard time telling a original cartouche from a phony. My point is that if you sell it on an auction site, such as EBay or G.B., how you advertise will have alot to do with the price you get. You MUST STRESS that the stampings are guaranteed to be original and show good photos such as you posted here.
You may be pleasantly surprised with what this stock may bring.

I agree with RBruce. I've been shopping for the same stock to finish a retoration of my 3.7 Garandicon ( last piece ). A good example goes for about $350.00. On that note, if your interested in selling, I'm interested in buying.

Check out what Tony's asking for a mint EMcF stock-1200 bucks. Super nice "old wood" is soaring in price.

Since it is a late war rifle and would have originally come with a stamped-milled hook trigger guard, which are pretty common, I would try a different TG with better lugs before I sold or traded the stock. That may be all it needs to tighten it up, and a lot less hassle.

And it is SOLD! Honestly who has $1200 for a stock and handguards, granted beautiful stamps? Wow, I wish I could drop that kind of cash on something like that.

    Well,

Personally I'd like to see the rifle that warrants such a perfect stock. Congrats to the guy that has that!
