help with sight
i just purchased my first garand, i have a lot of carbines. i want to restore the rifle, but i am having a problem getting the rear sight off......i got the knobs off and the peep sight,,,,,how does the rest come apart?
also,can anyone tell me about the parts on it, here are all the numbers i found:
1.serial : h&r 47992XX
2.right side of receiver under stock: 662829 1 ?????maybe
3. slide: 6535382 sa
4. bolt : 6528287-sa
5. trigger housing : IHC d6528290
6: barrrel : 4219 69 9 mp
no markings on the wood except for a circled P

Once the pinion and windage knob are removed, just slip the aperture back into the base a little ways and push the part with the hole up and forward. The sight will pop right off. The rest of your parts are a mixture of different manufacturers. Common on rebuilds.

This should help. This assembly/disassembly guide at the CMP website shows how. You can follow their instructions or as Latigo 1 says, after removing the windage knob and elevation spindle pull the aperture up a little and apply upward pressure and the whole thing will pop out, or use the screwdriver method as show in the CMP disassembly photos.
