    Barrel Date Question

I have an un-attached barrel that I cannot read the last digit in the date.
The side marking is right-side-up: S-A-4-4?
    The top marking is: D35448-36-Y-223-A
Can anyone tell me what the date would be?
    TIA

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. DD,

It's either 4-45, 4-46 or even 4-47. Not much help but at this point when outside contracts and internal SA work was cancelled, there was much steel left unused or partially finished. Late WW2 barrel steel heat lots were used long after the war was over for replacement barrels. I think your "36" revision number is actually a "35" if you can look again.

Unless it's a marking error, there is no record of a "36" revision for barrels, the list goes from "35" to "37" (1948 - 1949).

You are correct, it is actually a "5" that looks very much like a "6". I could only tell it was a 5 after comparing it to the other "5" in the drawing number.
Thanks for the mfg. date info. The barrel was sold by the CMPicon when they sold the "target Barrels" a few years ago. It is a nice barrel.
