I've heard of corrosive ammo-but this is ridiculous!

Browsing the M1icon Garand listings on eBay and ran across this. I guess the auction police haven't found it and pulled it yet.

Supposedly a live pick-up M2 Ball round recovered from Omaha Beach:

I'm sure that'll fire, no problem.

    Claven2...

...I'm surprised nobody has asked what the headstamp is?
Had that idea, copied the picture, but no matter how I fiddle with it, I can't make out what the headstamp might be.

Now, far be it from me to sound cynical, but here we have a cartridge that allegedly has been rolled around on a beach by wave and tidal action for sixty-six years, shows no sand abrasion or pebble denting, has been subjected to, in round figures, 50,000 extended dunkings in salt water, and still looks this good? Um, sorry, folks, but it that's real, I'm Marie of Roumania.

I'm "planting" a few WWII dated rounds in my garden and after a few years I'll dig them up and sell them on ebay for big profit. I don't blame ebay for this kind of crap. I blame the seller (crook) for selling it.

Playing devil's advocate: It might not have been in the sand. It could have been buried in the mud up on the banks overlooking the beach
