The seller is up front about what the rifle is and is not. I would ask him why he is selling specificall how does it shoot? If the machine work necessary to attach the reproduction scope mount base to the standard barrel was not done perectly the rifle will probably never shoot to the point of aim. IMO it would be an unfixable problem.

    Regards,

    Jim

    Thanks JGaynor,
Like i said i am new to all this, what serial numbers should i ask for to find out a little something about the rifle, i read that there are several places on the rifle that have them (stock, receiver, etc.). which ones are important to know?

Repro mount and cheekpiece? It will never have any collector value above the parts, so it better shoot well. Make sure it's not welded. IMHO it's worth under $1,000 if that.

There is a lot to know before you buy a M1D you can get taken in a heartbeat or hit a good deal, I have 40 years exp with them if you want info its free. I own 6 of my own and over 20 M1icon Garands of my own. So kind of nuts about them
Contact me if you wish to get more info and not pushing sales as I have more than I can handle

If you want something that looks like an M-1 D and shoots well then get a normal rifle from CMPicon have a Barnet barrel stuffed into it. Then go to Sarco and find the M-1 D kit which includes the barrel mount the scope ring the short hand guard and the cheekpad and the flash hider. Take it to your competent gun smith and have him assemble it while your looking for a lyman alaskan scope or a M-84. Then do not expect it to shoot to point of aim without some shiming. Very few of them did. Or you could get it from Numerich's in NY (Watch the quality of parts sent from either place)
As For M-1D's if they do not have CMP paperwork acompanying them they just are not a good investment for a new person and there so many fakes out there that it boggles the mind.

You can get a real M1D rifle, less scope, mount ring and cheek pad, for $1500 from the CMPicon. You can get the repo parts to complete it for under $500.
Go with the CMP and you will have a documented, real M1D that's worth something.
