How do I upload or post images on MILSURPS.COM .... (Article by Stevo)

To add images to your post on MILSURPS.COM, you have two options:

1. Using images hosted on the web:

If you have your images hosted at a site like photobucket.com or another web hosting service you can:

(a) Include the URL address of the image in your post ie: http://photos.imageevent.com/badgerdog/generalstorage/piclinks/small/2005%2008%2005%20034%20_Medium_.jpg

This allows the viewer to click on the link and view the image from the host. You can also manually insert the tags and or and directly before and after the url to make the image directly viewable within the post, like this ...

http://photos.imageevent.com/badgerdog/generalstorage/piclinks/small/2005%2008%2005%20034%20_Medium_.jpg

OR a thumbnail approach ....

(b) Click on the “Insert Image” button 586 (looks like a little landscape picture) when composing your post. This opens a window that you can paste your image URL address into. Paste the url into the open window and click “OK”. This automatically wraps the tags around the URL.

(c) photobucket.com also has a link available to copy called “Img”. You can copy this link directly into your post and the image will appear.

Images posted using manually inserted IMG tags or methods (b) and (c) will appear full size, like the one below.

With a big thank you to milsurps.com member Dimitri, instructions on how to post images to photobucket.com, can be found within Dimitri's PhotoBucket Tutorial (click here) (http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=248)

Microsoft's FREE Image Resizer (click here) (http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/ImageResizerPowertoySetup.exe)

If you don't have Microsoft's Windows XP add-on called Image Resizer (This FREE PowerToy enables you to resize one or many image files with a right-click), then click on the link above and install it on your system.

2. Uploading images directly to milsurps.com.

When starting a new thread, add whatever text you wish to include in the text box and then scroll down the page to "Additional Options." When making a new reply to an existing post, click the "New Reply" button or click on the "Go Advanced" button in the "Quick Reply" box, add your text (if any) and scroll down the page to "Additional Options."

You will see a button that says "Manage Attachments", click on this button and a new window will open. You have two options at this point:

a) Upload File from your Computer. This allows you to upload an image directly to milsurps.com from your computer. Use the "Browse" button and find the file you wish to upload. Click on the file you wish to upload then click "Open", then "Upload." The image will then be automatically included in your post. Click "Preview Post" to view the post, including the image.

b) Upload File from a URL. This is to upload an image hosted somewhere like photobucket.com. Paste the URL of the image into the box and click "Upload". Your image will be automatically included in your post. Click "Preview Post" to view the post, including the image.

All members, regardless of level, are limited to 40 uploaded images per individual posting. Individual JPG type pics can be sized to any dimensions of height and width (ie: 800x600, 1024x768 etc...), as long as each uploaded individual pic stays under 250kb in file size.

Registered Members are restricted to a total uploaded image storage limit of 8 Megabytes, which can be personally managed by image and post. Contributing Members (http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=276) have no uploaded image storage limitations.

Should you reach your storage limit, you will need to delete images from the milsurps.com server before you can upload more. To manage your uploaded images go to your User CP and click on "Attachments" in the Miscellaneous section on the left side of the CP page. This will display the number, name and size of the images you've uploaded. You can select the images you wish to delete by checking the box for each image, then clicking "Delete Selected" to remove them.

Images uploaded to the MILSURPS.COM server will appear as a "thumbnail" image like the one below. Click on the thumbnails to view the images full size.
