M14 Kits available from the CMP

Looks like they released about 400 kits. Price is $600. Sales page lists them as Grade A Kits less Reciever, Barrel & Bolt. Doesnt sound like the folks at the Tfl.com are very impressed.

Anyone going to take a chance, why or why not? Personally, Im in for another Woodless WRA from the CMPicon. No M14icon Kit for me.

A kit without a bolt doesn't sound very interesting. I'm not interested in firewood either, so that's not a plus for me to be able to get that. The price, off of the top of my head doesn't seem like a bargain. I'm better off spending the $600.00 and getting the exact parts I need. I don't find a used gas system to be desireable to me, either. I'll pass on them.

A receiver is 500 bucks minimum. Barreled receiver is 1200. Hard to build a rifle at decent price with those numbers.

That being said, I bet you'll regret not buying one someday.

Can you post a link? I don't see any M14icon kits for sale.

My opinion is those kits are overpriced by 300 bucks. I love the CMPicon and all but that stuff belongs to us already. We already paid for it.

Think we will be seeing allot of these kits for re-sale once they realize how much more they will need to build a decent rifle. Rough guess is at least $1200 for a Bolt, Barrel and receiver including a Gunsmith to barrel and headspace it.

I just went to the Fulton Armory site, these are their prices. A barrel is 274, bolt is 299 and receiver is 699, total of 1272 just for the three main parts. Don't have any idea what a gunsmith would charge to put it all together. A complete M14icon from Fulton is 2699.

Fulton Armory sells a pkg of receiver, bolt and barrel (stripped) for $1,049 (+$55 for chrome) and its head spaced for you. Now, I believe if you have a C&R you get an additional discount but I cant confirm this. In any event, everything I have acquired from the CMPicon has been of exceptional quality (5 garands / 2 carbines - so far). From personal experience they always conservatively rate their products. Hence, when they offered a "grade A" parts kit for an m1A i jumped on it. I agree, not the deal of the year but, for all USGI parts, not necessarily out of the ball park either. I'm sure they will soon sell out of them.

    Best

    Robert

Some pic's have been posted on the CMPicon boards. TRW & SA seem to be the standard. I saw one nice one, but most look rough. Not much included for $600
