I am reading a book written by an Alaskan Scout in WW11. He states that for personal weapons they carried the 03 Springfield or personal 3006 hunting rifles. he also mentioned that they carried colt woodsman 22s and hunting knives. I was astounded why carry 22s in combat. He also stated that they had access any weapons and equipment civilian or GI that they wanted (nelson pack boards, mukluks, waterproofed civilian hunting clothes). So why would they want colt 22s woodsman pistols

I think I remember a Colt Woodsman being the gun used by B-57 (Project GAMMA) to "terminate with extreme prejudice" a double agent in RVN 1969.
The order went out, the deed was done then the order was changed. Sorry to late.
It resulted in a big media event (things certainlly have changed).....Frank

I read an article that talked about such rifles as the ruger 10/22 used over seas in the past decades.. some with silencers..
called them "hush puppies" ..
used them to silence dogs as they made their way house to house..
could the 22 pistol been used for the same back in WWII?

Rock island museum has a few suppressed Woodsmans, and 3 select fire, suppressed 10-22,s on display, i have some pics someplace, ill see if i can find them.
thought it was funny, selector switch on the right side, cool looking full length suppressor, and a POS Bushnell scope...id bet they took the original scopes and used them on another secret weapon.
