GunBroker Auction for Rare "Tbq" code VG1 last ditch rifle
Seller Says:
No overseas bids accepted on this auction. You are bidding on a very scarce German VG1 last ditch bolt action rifle. It is coded "tbq" and this exact rifle is pictured on page 161 and 162 of Darrin Weavers excellent book "Desperate Measures" The Last-Ditch weapons of the Nazi Volkssturm. This rifle is in very nice condition overall. Metal finish is very nice with probably at least 85 to 90% original finish present. This scarce maker was unusual in the fact that they were the one VG1 company who installed MG81 machinegun barrels on weapons of their manufacture which makes them rather unique when compared to other VG1 makers. The "tbq" code is an unknown one and it could possibly be Rheinmetall-Borsig manufacture but no one is sure. It is serial #118A and both receiver and bolt handle number do match themselves which is proper. The bolt handle is very crude and almost appears to of been in the white when it was installed 62 years ago (little patina now). Stock is really neat in the fact that it is made out of the worst quality wood I have ever seen on any VG1 rifle. It is manufactured from a very light type of wood and is full of knots and flaws. In fact, the wood looks like something that you would make an orange crate out of. It has a couple cracks in it which basically start from a large knot on the side of stock (pictured)and one goes thru the pistol grip area to the other side. This has been repaired so no future problems here. My guess is the stock cracked when this rifle was fired at one time. The MG81 barrel is very short and the recoil must be tremendous considering this and the power of the 8mm Mauser round. Magazine is a standard "aye" code type as used with the G43 or K43. Rifle is totally complete with the exception of the small sheet metal plate that the trigger fits thru on the bottom of the stock. This tiny piece is just pressed into the stock and is missing from most surviving VG-1 rifles. For those interested parties who would like to have more details about condition and features, I have many extra detailed pictures that I would be happy to e-mail to any interested person. If you plan on bidding on this auction I would strongly recommend you requesting these extra pictures for they show the rifle from end to end and will answer many questions. So if you are looking for a 100% original "tbq" code VG1 last ditch rifle. This is just the ticket for you. Shipping and insurance will be at actual cost. Winning bidders must respond within 3 days and payment must be received within 10 days of auctions end. Payment by money order only. Must have ink signed FFl or Curio license copy to ship. Make sure to check my other auctions for more interesting items. Good Luck!!
