GunBroker Auction for WWI Enfield Sniper, Winchester A5, Whitehead

Seller Says:

Something for the serious collector. This rifle being so rare it really belongs in a museum. World War One Enfield / Winchester Sniper Rifle With ORIGINAL Enfield and War Department marked Winchester A5 Telescope. 1917 dated Enfield SHTLE III* With direct reproduction Whitehead Bros. Mounts. Original Winchester A5 scope with War Department and Enfield Markings. Only 907 Winchester scopes were so marked by the War Department for use with the No1 MkIII as WWI sniper rifles. This conversion was done by Whitehead Bros. Extremely few of these sniper rifles survived as they were broken down shortly after the war and the scopes and upper mounts were disposed of through the trade. This is a real piece of history! If you would like more pictures or have questions please feel free to ask. Thank you. All FFL rules apply.

Quartermaster Note:
For any members who may be considering participating in this auction, you should note that the seller has informed us that "the mounts are one of a kind hand made copies of the Whitehead mounts, and unfortunately were not made by Whitehead."
