GunBroker Auction for Bringback German K98k Mauser w/Rare Oak Stock
Seller Says:
Presented for auction is this bringback (not a Russian capture or other import) WW2 K98k Mauser with a factory original matching oak stock. The very limited use of this wood is documented in Richard Law’s landmark reference book on K98k’s, Backbone of the Wehrmacht. Footnote 29 on page 102 of the 1991 edition states that “ . . . A number of K98k’s produced by Mauser Oberndorf in 1943 (code byf 43) in the “k” serial range were issued with oak stocks.” This is one of those rare birds, and it’s the only one I’ve seen in more than 40 years of collecting military rifles. The WaA proofed stock’s serial number matches the receiver, as does the handguard and all the other numbered parts except for the bolt and the floor plate. The milled follower is unnumbered. The bolt totally matches itself. I would conservatively rate this rifle to be in VG+ condition. Most of the original blue finish is intact, and the stock has not been sanded or refinished. The bore is strong and shiny, although it shows some graininess. All I did with this piece was to add a cleaning rod, which I don’t believe is an original. Please note: Since the bolt is a mismatch, it is strongly recommended that a competent gunsmith check the headspace before this rifle is fired. If you have any questions at all, please contact me before you bid (I’ve numbered the pictures, so you can refer to them in your questions). US buyers only. Sold to FFL or C&R holders only (I have a C&R). Payment to be made by cashier’s check or money order. Buyer also pays $35 for packing and shipping via UPS ground, including insurance.
