    Sheriff's Pistol

This Colt was ordered by Winnebago County for it's new Sheriff, Edwin Abell, who became Sheriff of Winnebago County in 1933. It appears that they wanted the best for their new Sheriff.

It also appears to me that the sherrif wasn't a shooter or by the looks didn't carry it much either. It stayed pretty much perfect. That's nice!
    Regards, Jim

The pistol was made in a time when there wasn't a lot of money around and times were hard for most, so I decided to risk the $100 on a Colt letter to see who would pay for a National Match. In this case the gamble on the letter paid off.
For as long as I can remember the Sheriff of our county has not worn a pistol, and the last Chief Deputy did not wear one either.

Now that's what you call real documentation. A beautiful example of an early NM with some history. Hard to beat. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Johnny for the "Show & Tell". That is a beautiful pistol. Do you have a copy of Timothy J. Mullin's book "American Beauty" The Prewar Colt National Match Government Model Pistol? Definately a must have for NM owners.

Yes, I bought the book before I found the pistol, and that just flamed the search. A nice book to have.
