Walmart decides not to fight a second Battle of the Wilderness

Walmart decided to give up on building a superstore on part of the Wlderness battlefield.

    Stop the Wilderness Walmart

I posted on the other list too. CWT is a decent organization, I send them a little $ once in a while

It really is hard to believe what extent Mal-Wart will go to when they want a piece of land. I remember a few years ago they wanted to expand a store somewhere in the Eastern US and wanted the original house of a US President moved so they could do the expansion. They just don't get it.

Mal-Wart is one store I do my VERY BEST to avoid spending a single dollar at and I really wish more people would stop shopping there!

I like Walmart cause they still sell ammo guns and cater to hunters. No one is perfect but they didn't fold to liberal pressure like k-mart. As long as the people that want to take our freedom and guns hate Walmart I will always support the big W.

What's that they say about our enemies enemy being our friend? I do applaud Walmart for being hunter/shooter friendly. My biggest complaint is trying to find something not made in China but that's the way it is everywhere. I'll pay 50% more for a US made product over an import but even then you don't always have a US alternative.

Well everyone wants cheaper goods me included and we have destroyed our manufacturing base with such wishes. The real problem with Mal-Wart is they want everyone else out of business, they want it ALL and that my friends is very scary.

Think of all the small locations that have seen their business district devistated by a Mal-Wart building on the outskirts of town.

Search and find the interview with the gentleman that owns 'Snapper" lawn mowers, great story and a great man who wouldn't allow the price and quality of his mowers ground into the dirt by Mal-Wart. That man is a true American.

Think of the statistics of how much it costs the state in regard to Mal-Wart employees, lower paid workers with no financial ability of finding health insurance they can afford.

Believe me all of us are paying a big price for the "privledge" of shopping at Mal-Wart.

Since Mal-Wart came to Canadaicon I have only bought three things from them and all out of necessity, a can of shaving cream, 4L of bleach and 4L of sythetic oil as no one else had the oil that I needed. Hopefully I will buy less in the remaing years of my life. I now purchase the synthetic oil long before I need it thus won't get caught in that dilemma again.

    PS.

IF you are a prudent shopper you will find Mal-Wart is not cheap on MANY MANY items. Mal-Wart has convinced the public they are cheap on everythying, NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH.

I look forward to Target in Canada as they will really put a dent into Mal-Wart. Target generally has better quality products at very competitive prices.

    Guys,

I wasn't really interested in doing a WalMart: good or evil? thread ..... This particular case was interesting because it took a lot of work by a big non-profit to stop WalMart from taking it's next bite out of what should be sacred ground. If they chose that spot, it was because their site selection people told them it was the best available place for their store.

I guss they gave it up after it caused so much controversy. WalMart generally is slow to react .....

Anyway, I can remember when WalMart bragged that it sold "made in USAicon" whenever possible. That was a while ago. I buy my gun-and-hunting-related stuff from locally-owned shops. Or sometimes off the internet (30-40 brass for instance). I could care less if Wally World sells guns and ammo, I don't enjoy shopping there.

So I can see how easy it is to see red and hijack the thread when you hear (read) the word "WalMart"

jon, a sincere apology for hi-jacking your original post.

Yes I am very Anti Mal-Wart as I believe they have cost hard working Americans tens of thousands of jobs with their never ending drive for lower and lower costs.

We all need affordable pricing but not at the expense of our countrymen loosing their jobs.

Like here in Canadaicon you Americans are desperate for employment and low paying Mal-Wart jobs do not provide enough income for families to live at a decent standard of living.

I never condemn anyone for shopping at Mal-Wart as if you are a wise shopper you can save money on some items they sell. My point is to always try to inform everyone that there are two sides to low prices and the real downside is the loss of jobs to foreign countries.

    Again sorry for the hi-jack.

Very few places in the world do I get that deep feeling of reverence, those being churches, the Lincoln Memorial, and Civil War battlefields. This is a very good and appropriate thing and I am glad you posted the news.

Outfits like Walmart, Microsoft and others compete and win in the market place, and winning is not always fair, nor are they all bad. To stay on topic, I am always glad when people in a just cause can teach corporate or government agencies about genuine morality, justice, reverence and respect for something bigger than them.

    guys,

all it takes is peaople care a little. The big corporations do what they gotta do, we do what we gotta do. And if we don't, well it's all on us. Organize!

Don't get me wrong, I am glad wm came to their senses and the Battlefield issue is important to me as well. My family shops at walmart, target, publix, winn dixie, 3 gun shops, 3 auto stores(advance, autozone and napa), books a million and barnes and noble not to mention amazon(i guess i mentioned it) I could go on and on and I'm leaving out sears,jc penny and my wife's dozen+ womens stores(i shutter at the thought). I guess we spread the wealth out but no one has to tell me to do that. I wish wm had more USAicon made stuff that's for sure. I hope we as a nation come to our senses and start bring more jobs back to our country(not to be isolationist) but we once had a great manufacturing sector and i would like it back. It's so hard to buy from your own country for example ford, jeep x 3 and harley davidson that i own/ owned are USA but the steels from? the electrical? the engine components? the fabric? on and on..........I do my best.
