    What kind of safe?

Most of us have a safe of some kind. I took some things into consideration when I bought my first. Protection from theft, fire, looks. And size was determined by what I thought I would need.

My safes were made by Hall's and I am very with them. But as we all do, I have accumulated more items. Time to sell some stuff, or go for safe number 3.

Looking for peoples favorite safes and why.

    Thanks,

    Jim

It appears to me that you have one of your most precious items in the safe.

Yep, been collecting that for 45 years now. I wonder if that is what they mean by a safe Queen?

I bought the best I could afford which I suppose is the best way to go.

What I took into consideration was a combination of how strong the safe is against break ins and how long it will survive a fire. The first consideration was how heavy it was. The other two don't mean too much if someone can come in and pick it up and take the whole thing away.

What I ended up with was a small 24 gun safe that weighs about 1000 lbs, will withstand a fire for 2 1/2 hours and foil all but extremely skilled safe crackers. I set it up on a concrete pad that I can anchor it to and which cannot collapse into a basement and also has little around it that can burn.

The safe was contract made for another company by Liberty Safes if I'm not mistaken. The fire rating was by far the best I was able to find, most of the other brands being no more than an hour and a half. Retail price was $2000 several years ago. I bought it scratch and dent so paid considerably less. Took three guys to get it into the house.

Those were the features I looked for also.

Fire test was 1,800° outside and only 140° inside. No harm to anything inside.
12 1-1/8" Stainless Steel Locking Pins.
3/8" sides with 1/2" door. They will make a 1" door if you want.
    1,500 lbs. empty
I wanted a dial not a push button. One thing I liked about these guys was that the door mechinizam is moved around. It is not the same on all their safes. So if you know how to drill into one it won't work on another. They keep a serial number file that show locations. If drilled it locks up. They repair free for life. Haven't needed that so far, but it is a nice feature. Plus I got to pick my colors.
But not cheap. $2,200 in 1990 for the first, $2,650 in 1999, over $3,000 now.

Looking for options, but it seems I might just go back to them again.

I got a huge fire proof Liberty Safe. It's 6' X 4' X 3'. I used to have two of them but I lost one in the big "D".
