Medford man returns rare handgun to Medal of Honor winner

    Mail Tribune

A historic Colt .45-caliber, semi-automatic pistol stolen more than 30 years ago from a Medal of Honor winner in South Carolina has been returned to its rightful owner.

The gun and owner were reunited after a history buff in Medford, who bought the old handgun in an online auction last month, tracked down the retired Marine whose name is engraved on it.

And now he STILL gets to own a 1911 owned by a MOH recipient. Another historic piece!

He gave him John Finn's pistol! Wow! As an ex-Aviation Ordnanceman that's one of my Holy Grails!

The cool thing about the whole story is money and greed never entered the picture, just one honest fellow doing the right thing. He is the true hero! If the auction site would have researched the one they sold they would have seen it belonged to a MOH recipient as well and you can bet it would have gone for well over 10K. As it turns out for less than $1000.00 he still ended up with a 10K+ 1911 and he doesn't even care what it's worth. No one involved looked for anything to boost their assets, pad their wallet or make a buck. Faith in mankind has been restored!
