i came accross a 1911 a1 colt 45, manufactured 1943, Hartford,also marked Lt. Drewry US Ordinance Corp,serial # 11172**,near mint but have no idea if this is rare ,common, or what as far as these weapons go. but its nice, does anyone have a clue?

Any Colt 1911A1 that is all correct and in excellent condition is highly collectible and sought after by collectors. In that serial number range it should still have the matching serial number behind the firing pin stop so make sure that is correct. Also, in excellent condition, one has to decide whether it has been refinished or not and also if all the parts are correct to the pistol. If you could show us some good close up detailed pictures maybe we could be of some help in these areas.

By the time Lt. Drewry took over as Inspector of Ordnance for the Springfield Ordnance District, he was a Brigadier General.

A picture is worth a thousand or more words, especially in a case like this.
