Original finish on a Ishapore 2A1 rifle

Anyone know the original finish on the 2A1 ? just stripped the varnish off the woodwork and the black paint from the metal work, woodwork had a few coats of BLOicon, and come up nice, not planning on going to town on this as I just want it as a shooter, but it looks 100% better from what it was, just wonder on the original metal finish.

Bigduke, I have stripped the paint off over a dozen of these Ishapore actions during prep for refinish. Early 2A's were generally found to be matt blued under the paint. A weak grey parkerized finish appeared on some of the the later 2A1 guns. My safest guess would be a matte blued finish was the predominate original finish on these guns. It cannot be ruled out that the parkerized rifles may have gone through a rebuild at some point in the rifles period of useage. So, I'd say it broke down to something like 9 blued to 3 parkerized in my little informal sample if I remember correctly.

Cheers, it has the weak grey finish including mag so will leave as is. Just got to repair some of the threads and renew screws etc, some were held in with paper and silocone.

The last EMER for our No1's authorised tapping loose or stripped holes to the next BA size. It did list the screws and appropriate sizes but I can't seem to find it. One that I remember was over-tapping sling loops to take No4 rifle BA screw sizes.

Hasn't answered your question of course Big Duke but it's early on a Thursday and that's the day I usually go off at a tangent

Have you sent her to give me a clip around the ears for ribbing you pete? I'm up in the Hunter Valley, so unless she's doing a tour of the Wineries I'd say maybe not.
Did you spend any time at Singleton? I have the faintest feeling that I may have met you somewhere, but that could have been Bandiana.

I went to Singleton but not for long. Bandiana was the main base then with the Infantry....... then ever onwards and upwards. Or in my case, downwards!
