    SMLE Mount

    Does anyone recognse this bracket/mount?

I believe that it is designed to fit the receiver of a No1.MkIII.

I have just sourced the mount ex-NZ and I am trying to determine its' origin and confirm that is is in fact for a SMLE.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Paul

There was a common type of mount by Parker Hale called the "Continental", but your mount is different in detail. I think your might be a No1 mount of Australianicon origin.

I have an SMLE field mount and it is different to that one. Having said that, it's quite reasonable to expect they made more than one mount. Mine has 'field' cast into it so I would look for the name to be sure.

This is a Germanicon-made commercial mount For the SMLE Mk III from the 1950's They were quite popular in NZicon and were well made. Two models were offered, one in all steel and a lightweight version with the ring section made in aluminium. They were used on sporterised .303 rifles and the most popular 'scope of the period was the Pecar. These mounts are still quite sought-after. The mounting plate was correctly shaped for the side of the receiver and could be very firmly fixed. The ring section was capable of a 'return to zero' when taken on and off the rifle, and also featured a dovetail adjustment to maintain a good fit.

Interesting. I've handled this particular mount and there's no way it will fit on a Lee-Enfield. It appears to be made for a larger diameter fully round receiver.

My Field mount has a bar that is mounted to the receiver, then the scope mount itself attaches to that. This looks like a direct attachment to me.
