Salmon Arm BC Gun show this week end

Hi everyone. For all of you that are interested, the annual Salmon Arm, BC, Canadaicon, Gun Show is on this week end.

It is open from 9am to 5pm Saturday and 9am to 3pm Sunday.

It's usually a pretty decent show. Not huge, 100+ tables.

The great thing about this show is that there is usually quite a variety of stuff there. Always a few surprises. I kind of like these smaller shows better than the really large ones that take up 3+ buildings and it takes two days to get a good look at what's really there.

Anyway, just a heads up for those in the surrounding area and a reminder, all prices are open to negotiation. Barter is the word and order of the day.

Can't make Salmon Arm, too far. We have our big annual event here in Victoria the last weekend of Oct. Maybe just a few more tables than yours is predicting? Come on down. Or, we see you in Calgary. And then Chilliwack.

Went to the show and as usual the good deals were all bought the night before by the people who participated in the show. In all honesty it happens at every show so this is nothing unusual.

In reality not much there that was interesting, saw a nice P17 for $300.00 which was a good deal but already have one.

Great to see some familiar faces which is great and did see a Mk V barrelled action which the owner intends to try to restore to original condition

There was a nice No1 MkIII but it looked strange, then I realized it was cut down and at sometime probably a sporter that has been restored to full wood. I pointed it out to the seller and he said it was original so tomorrow I will take a elderly gentleman who needs a ride to the show and a tape measure. I am not sure how much has been cut off the barrel, there was a sporterized (uncut) No 1 standing right beside this one and pointed out to the seller how much longer it was, to no avail.

Bearhunter will disagree with me on my assessment but he did take some of my money as he sold me a box of Winchester Silver Tip .303.

Didn't stay long as I have to go again tomorrow but not a single Lee Enfield that I would give a second look at.

Well I was wrong, took a tape measure and the No1 was ok, it still looked strange to me and was a RFI so not worth the money the guy was asking.

Some items sold and I know a Winchester Collector sold a yellow boy for #5,000.00 IIRC. Nice gun and worth the price is you needed one.

Did find a WW1 1915 No3 Mk1 rifle grenade but think the price was too high.

So this was a #1 Mk 3 that was shorter than standard? The bayonet standard would be just in front of the front band. I did one up for a friend to look like the trials guns. I did a proper job and after blueing it would be hard to tell(if you didn't know the scarcity) that it was done by J Public. This gun sold at the last Calgary show so it's out there. I only knew it had sold because I saw it on the buyer's shoulder. Hard to say where it is now. The barrel should be 20 1/4" and I think an early receiver. Or maybe you could get a pic?

enfield303T, you need to take off you blinders when you go through a gun show. In Lumby, you walked past a No4 MkI converted to 7.62x51, wearing a laminated stock, priced at $575. Not only once, but several times. At least 20+. It was put on onto the table around 4 hours into the show. I couldn't stand it anymore so I scooped it.

In Salmon Arm, you walked past the first table at the show as you came in with an unfired but not in wrap No4 MkII, still in the grease, for $200. It was there until Sunday. I finally couldn't take it anymore and scooped it as well.

Right beside it was a Yugoicon 24/47, all matching in the grease with a mint bore for $300, I couldn't just let the poor thing go home with the seller so I bought it as well.

Then of course there was the 3 band Snider, Canadianicon service marked, with 95% bore and all parts present, even the original cleaning rod. I should also mention that there were 50 rounds of reloadable brass, bullet mold with handles, 100 cast bullets and a full 3 die set for sizing down 20ga brass cases to 577 Snider.

There were unopened cans of H4831 on sale for $25/lb, for the whole show. Lots of good brass and ammo deals as well.

If I hadn't seen you there, I would have thought you were describing a different show.

Oh, don't let me forget the M38 Swede Mauser, again still in grease, all matching, mint bore, $200. I found that one during the last hour of the show. There was also the No4 MkI 43 Longbranch that had the wood cut down but again it was mostly complete and all of the numbers, match. Even the mag. $75. Luckily I have enough wood and parts to return it to its full glory. I would say the metal is around 85%.

Maybe you just weren't feeling well??????? It was in the rack beside that No1 MkIII that you were measuring and found out it was correct.

You have to take that money out of your wallet to get a little light once in a while. It will go moldy otherwise.

Bearhunter I didn't want the No4 and I knew about it before I visited the show. I am also not a mauser fan so no chance there, great gun but not for me. I am now trying to concentrate on No1's however I do agree you can never have enough of any Lee Enfield.

In reality from guys I talked to not alot sold, yes some did but money is tight and it is evident in the lack of sales between the shows in Lumby, Vernon and now Salmon Arm.

Maybe I am now entering a frugal mode in my old age...

As I said in my first post, I knew you would disagree with me.

enfield303t, for the most part I'm just pulling your chain. Glad you saw it.

You're right, there wasn't a lot of sales going on there. Maybe that's why there were so many good deals on both Saturday and Sunday.

The economy in the BC interior, is certainly not good for sellers at gun shows. The show organisers said they had a record number of people through the doors on both days. I can believe it. Lots of looky loos that were looking for screaming deals and even when they found them were reluctant to part with their money. Lots of people came in off the street with stuff they wanted to trade or sell. An unusually large number to tell the truth. Some ot the stuff was very nice but for the most part nothing of any interest to me.

Really decent No1, No1 mkIII and No1 mkIII* rifles are getting increasingly difficult to find. They tend to show up in groups and usually from an estate when they do.

By the way, "FRUGAL" has nothing to do with being a lurking "BANDIT". Lets not make light of this. I would have used the word "CHEAP" but that wouldn't be polite. Take care. Sorry I missed your call today.

  11. Thank You to bearhunter For This Useful Post:
