I made a plywood MG-42 when I was a kid. Even had a belt of fired casings to go with it.

Strangely, no one ever called the cops and we never were confronted by a SWAT team when we played army as kids. We even carted a dewat M2HB around in wagon. Times certainly have changed.

I had a 1928 Thompson made out of wood, cut off hockey stick for a barrel and complete with a drum mag. I thought it was cool and traded for it from a neighbor who made it, used it while wearing my Canadianicon helmet and my dad's WWI Sam Brown.

Life really was simpler than today.

I used to make toy guns out of wood as a kid in my dads garage... Not much has changed other than they're now real guns and it my garage! Loved it and still do.

Wow Warren that sure brings back memories. You can buy wooden clothes pins in most Dollar Stores, look for ones that are made out of bamboo, much stronger than the regular ones. Thanks for the memory.

Summer of 76, playing war with the lads on the estate, I never had any type of weapon, went in the house to knock something up, and my Dad stepped in to make me a Thompson out of chipboard, nearly as good as the real thing in my eyes back then, trouble was the game was over before the Thompson was cocked, still a lasting memory of my Dad sweating in the afternoon sun cutting the outline we had drawn, and then handing me the completed gun over after wrapping the pistol grip and forward grip in insulating tape, considering he only had one hand he was a hell of a craftsman.
