Rifle fire along this metal tube tests velocity before each new batch of .303 ammunition is sent from the ammunition factory. The tube is 180 feet long, electrical contacts at rifle and stop butt connected to a chronograph gauge bullets speed.
    cheers

Well that was easy, Ned picked it in one, (almost) word for word to the caption from the AWM. I said no cheating, but it is certainly improving the research skills.

similar thing but its called a gallery range, only 25 metres long or shorter I think. You can actually build a gallery range with the pipe and have a bullet trap set up at the end and if you have enough room get it registered and use it in your yard. I think it was a cadet unit in perth somewhere made one for 22's and carted it to a shopping center for a recruitment thing a while ago. Talk about taking the kings shilling!!!

    Cheers
    Ned
