    Colt Goverment Model

I went to the Allentown, PA gun show today and I traded an M1icon Carbine for this. He said it was 1954 vintage.

Also came with a "tattered" box

Two questions; anyone care to venture a manufacture date for 267812-C, and it has walnut grips, is that correct for this vintage?

A lot of people threw away the ugly brown plastic grips that originally came on these. The ones made from the mid to late 60's were even worse, as the plastic used in those would shrink over time. Having the original grips makes sense from a collector's standpoint, but shooters usually got a fresh set of grips fairly quickly.
