Heat treatment on the metal on select areas before bluing, caused different colors. Correct for it to be like that on that pistol.

Thanks. Another question - This pistol is all original except the grip safety. It had a long tail grip safety which I replaced with a Colt grip safety. Problem is that the finish is different (it is more black and not high polish). I would like to have one with a commercial finish that goes on this pistol. I have not been able to find one. Any ideas on what to do (e.g., can I get this grip safety refinished to match)?

Beginning in 1925 Colt hardened the front of the slide to prevent wear and battering in this area. The first slides of the Model 1911A1 were not hardened until 1937.
