M91-30 Bolt Action Problems...

I have just recently bought a M91-30 and I went and shot it today. I cleaned out the barrel and oiled it. I shot it once and it was good, then I went to pull the bolt back to eject the bullet and it was really hard. It's real hard to get the bolt up to pull it back and then when you go to pull it back you either have to hit it with your hand or hit it against something to get the bullet ejected. I then did the same thing with out it being loaded and it was fine. It's just hard to pull back the bolt after you have fired a bullet for some reason. I am goin to call the gun store from where I bought it and tell them about it because they have one other but I thought I'de get some input from you guys, so...
Have any suggestions??

It's not hte gun - it's the ammo. Some of hte steel cased commie ammo was designed for semi-autos. Original Mosin ammo was brass cased and extracted MUCH easier.

Best you can do is rigorously clean the chamber and try to find ammo your rifle "likes". Alot of folks report problems like this with the Czech silver tip steel cased ball ammo, for example.

Personally I shoot reloads :)

Alot of Americans say the Albanian ammo was good for extraction.

Which bullets do you use for handloads? I handload for my Finn 28-30 with .308 bullets. Most of my mosins have a .311 bore. Thanks for any assistance.

When I get guns with sticky chambers, I first check for roughness and burrs in the chamber and then if necessary re-cut the chamber and then polish the entire chamber til it shine like a mirror. If its sticky and you don't have any imperfections, you should still polish the chamber accordingly to a mirror finish. I've heard some guys shooting bottom feeder grade mil surp ammo using a very, very, small amount of lube, but, I've never tried it. HTH-SDH

Most of the Russians, and even most Finns seem to work well with .311 or .312 bullets.

The M28 and M28/30, however, were designed to use .308 bullets. Shooting .311 bullets in them will work just fine - the Finns did it all the time - but I would avoid hot loads as you are already a bit high on the pressure curve by using oversized projectiles in an M28 or 28-30 (assuming you do).

I use 150 or 174gr .311 bullets intended for .303 British most of the time.

Czech silver tip steel cased ball ammo is a problem with all my nagants, the Hungarian heavy ball is not a problem.

It's an ammo problem most of the time, but nothign wrong with checking the chamber.

I use the Bulk Hornday 7.62 123g Sp in my Mosins. Cheap and accurate.

You may want to check you "sticky bolt" problem by cleaning your chamber. Sometimes there is a fair amount of cosmo where the bolt locks in. Run a chamber brush and see if you get some cosmo.
