    No4 rear sight wobbles

    My 4th enfield . Good bore, good timber, good bedding, barrel pressure at foreen tip as requested...only problem is that rear sight , a CMK3, made from Long Branch in 1949 wobbles left-right. How to fix it?

    If the sight fits the pin ok, but just slides from side to side a fraction, then you can just uses a small washer to keep it on one axis. If the sight is rocking on the pin - ie the base holes have become enlarged, then you'd probably be better off with a new sight.

    Just following on from the previous suggestions - is the 'pivot pin' 'sloppy' in the two 'ears' of the action ?
    On some sights sold as 'No4 target sights' there is a need to enlarge the holes in the 'ears' - is it possible it once had one of these sights fitted ?

    Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

    Those supposed windage adjustable No4 rear sights are NOT for the No4 but rather for a War office .22 training rifle. Enlarging the hole in the reciever is simply buggering an otherwise original rifle.

    The stamped No4 rear sight needs a small washer to hold it over to one side since it does not have the same base as the milled sight

    My impression is that pin sits well , but the sight itself wobbles left right side. So i have to built a small washer to fix it. My sight is a CMK3 post war Long Branch made so it's a tipically Mark3 i believe without fine adjustment between various range made by a slider.. this evening i'll study her. Thanks you all!

    Good morning John. Good to hear from you again. The sight illustrated was a money saving idea for the UKicon Military L81 target rifle. Done on the cheap and using old existing parts where they could. The least said about the rifles, the better. It would have been better to supply the units that asked for them with standard L39's instead.
