    Privi Partizan 303

Time for my next bulk buy of ammo. This time I'm going PPU because everyone says the cases are best for reloading. There is 150, 180, 174 grain. Any comments on which has proved most accurate or which mirrors the original Mk7 ammo best?

    If you go here:

    Prvi Partizan Ammunition

you will see that the nice folk at PPU list Mk7Z ammo.

This is not part of their "sporting" line, but their military line.

Sitting on my desk as I type, (yes. it's THAT sort of desk), is a packet of the "usual" stuff. It is marked:

    15 pcs.
    .303 CARTRIDGE MK8z
    NCD-02
    PPU 8502 MBL 8577.

This stuff is definitely 180gn boat-tail ammo.

Maybe some of the importers have never thought to find out the differences. Or do they just assume that "boat-tails" must be better?

Note that in their "sporting" ammo PPU list this:

    Article Caliber Bullet Type Bullet Weight[gr] Bullet Weight[g] Vellocity[m/s] Energy[J] Barrel Lenght[mm]
    A-143 303 British FMJ BT 174 11.3 750 3180 610

And that is most definitely NOT Mk7ball. (See BT)

However, the question remains; is the "military" "Mk7z" ammo REAL Mk7z or does it have a 174gn boat-tail over NC propellant?

Miltary Mk.VIIZ only differs from Mk.VII in the propellant.

What I suppose I should have asked is this:

Has anone ever seen a packet of PPU "Mk7z ball and popped the projectile out of one?

Their own website seems to indicate that what they call Mk7z actually has a 174gn boat-tailed bullet over NC propellant, (the "z" part).

I contacted the manufacturer just recently about this. So far, I have received a "message read" reply but nothing further. Here's hoping.

As I have mentioned before, last time I asked a commercial bullet manufacturer about tooling up to make "proper" Mk7 bullets, his frst question was, "How many million do you want?" Remember that these bullets are a bit different from your basic "sporting" projectile.

Several years ago the UK MoD acquired a load of approx 40,000 and it had to be tested prior to authority to shoot it was given. A batch sample was tested and found to be 'suitable for use in Vickers machine guns' It was, and all went bang and the guns were all the better for it - and so was I
