Here are my July and August purchases:

My Underwood M1:

A nice matching 41 dated bayonet that I got of Jean. Been looking for one of these for a while. Very pleased! Thansk to Steve for the tip!

And now, for the odd piece. My gamble from Germany.

This, rear sight cover, I believe is original. Despite not wearing the usual k98k marking on the inside. To the best of the knowledge some were unmarked. The leather is brittle, and I have oiled it heavily to remoisturize it a bit.

Now for the odd part. Someone at somepoint thought it would be a good idea to add some markings to this piece,
to add some flavour.

The markings are very crisp, and it doesnt feel like they have been there for very long.

Whenever I see these kind fo markings I simply go; Why! :banghead:

Oh well, for the money I spent on it, Im still pleased. It will look great sitting on a byf44 ;)

Benvenuto a Milsurps.com. Io parlo un poco Italiano, but man am I rusty! I used to live in Rome as kid.

Great looking Rifle you have there. Is it easy to find milsurps in Italia?

A very early "S/42G" (1935 Date/code) produced K98k; a rifle produced when Germany was attempting to hide it's rearmanent while still under the restrictions of the Versailles Treaty. As with almost all S/42G K98k's found today, it went through a Mauser/Oberndorf factory reconditioning in late 1940/early 1941. See Law's book about "Factory Reconditioned K98k's" on page 271 (first ed.)

After 5 years of hard service (which if you think about it included the 1936 reoccupation of the Rhineland, the 1938 annexation of Austria, the 1938 annexation of the Sudentland, the 1939 invasion of Poland and the 1940 invasion of France) these 1935 produced rifles were returned to the Mauser Oberndorf factory in late 1940 and early '41.

This very interesting rifle is ALL Matching except for an unmarked band spring and unmarked floorplate screws. It is a vet capture/bringback rifle and is just as it was after another 5 years of use and then brought back by the returning vet.

Great find Badger!!! This is the first "g" marked one I've come across. Is the cleaning rod serial numbered?

Agreed, that is a gem Badger! Those early K98's are works of art, beautifully made.

Here is my August purchase and finished project. I am very satisfied how it turned out.
I bought a sporterized Byf43 K98 off of CGN. Great bore, which is what really mattered to me, with a forcematched bolt and mismatched stock. Everything else matches. Here it is as I got it:

I bought a replacement stock from a guy in Norway (he included all the missing hardware I needed as well, great deal). I swapped the stock and added a repro base adaptor with an original Zf41 and original mount. Here it is with the new stock and the Zf41 added as well:

Thanks guys. Yeah, it is a nice stock. If you guys are ever in need of a K98 stock, let me know and I can pass along the seller's contact info. He may have more. (He is on Gunbroker as well). I think shipped from Norway with all the metal hardware, stock and handguard it was $170. Not bad at all.....

Finally got something to show after a long time...at least a long time for me.

Just picked up a hard to find or if I may say rare Pattern 1903 Mk II Naval Pattern scabbard. It has taken me 5 years but finally picked one up that I could afford.

Below is it pictured with another rare scabbard, a Pattern 1888 Mk II* Land Pattern, for comparison. Easiest way to tell a P1888 type scabbard vs a P1903 is that the P1888 has a pointier tip!

In the second set of pictures is an overall comparison of Pattern 1903 scabbards. Top to bottom, note length of frog loops and stitching vs rivits:

P1888 Mk I Land, P1903 Mk I Land, P1903 Mk I Naval (probable commercial example as there is no chequering but the closest I have found), P1903 Mk II Naval, P1903 Mk III Naval, P1903 Volunteer Pattern, and P1903 Ishapore Pattern.

Hi folks, not posting often here, but I thought I could share a couple of pics. Not a purchase, rather a rebuild, from a Bubba'ed rifle to a military configuration; just finished it last week. I know the ishy screw in the forend isn't suppose to be present on a 1915 Enfield-built No1 Mk3*, but... I refurbish on a tight budget :)

Cheers,

Lou
