Can anyone ID this canvas and leather case?

    Greetings,

I bought this 45" case back in the late 80-s while I was a manager at Sherwood International Export Corp in Northridge CA. I've used it for a rifle case but that is not it's intended use. I seem to remember something about machine gun barrels but not sure. It's very well made and seems to have some foreign writing on it See pic-(IsraelI'd really appreciate it if anyone could tell me what it is.
    Thanks!
    Everett

Gosh guys...I'm surprised no one can ID this case. I guess I can't say too much since we sold them and I just plumb forgot what they were intended for. I know there's Hebrew letters stenciled onto it but I think it was something they got in one of their military contract buying. I see the numbers 7.92 which is 8mm. Did they have an 8mm machine gun? The lined hole has got me stumped. Maybe for a sight? The two snapped flap in the middle is also interesting...for a handle? I would so much appreciate what this heavy duty case was made for. Thank you for your insight and knowledge. I'm new to milsurp.com and it seems like a great place for all things military.
    Best regards,

Here's a guess for you. Could it be either a spare barrel bag or weapons case for an MG 42? I could see something '42' in the lower line of print below the '7,92'.

That's a good guess.. I've tried to find one on the net but couldn't . I would like to see one for a positive ID. It's ironic that Isreal would be using them. Why not.they were one of the finest machine guns out there. Do you think thelined cut out hole would be for the sights...Seems they should be protected too.Looks like it was made in 42. I have someone that's going to interpret the hebrew letters..Maybe that will shed some light... Makes an excellent rifle case though. Super heavy duty and the leather is very thick and well stitched. I think someone out there with an MG 42 would love to have this if that's what it's for. I appreciate your input.

I'm surprised that I seem to have stumped the military collectors forum. I can't be too critical as I actually sold these items and the only thing I can remember is that it was for machine gun barrels or a machine gun...One way or another it was for an automatic squad weapon. A true machine gun of rifle caliber.
    Thanks,
    W.T.
