I installed a pair of old Redfield type* scope rings on a scope I was going to mount on one of my rifles. As I was inserting the front ring in the base, I noticed that it would not fit. Upon looking closely at the bottom of the ring, I noticed that the base of the ring that is supposed to turn in the Redfield base slot was a different shape than the normal Redfield ring. Instead of being a circle with two opposite sides milled off, it was a circle with only one side milled off. Any ideas what company made this ring set? 338373383933838

I believe that you have a set of Buehler Split rings. They are similar to but not interchangable with Redfield. The front mounting ring base is different (though the principal is the same) and the rear mounting screws enter at a 45 degree angle as opposed to the Redfield rear mount screws which enter at 90 degrees tio the bore. The rings were either "split" (which it apears you have) or solid.
Hope this helps.
