Anyone in the Essex (UK) area?

Anyone in the area with an interest in ships or Engineering, they are more than welcome to come down to Tilbury docks, to have a look round a laid up ferry before its sold or made into razor blades, just a last chance to see a working engine room etc, will be on board next wednesday 23/05/12 - 29/05/12

Moderators can you please keep this on the Enfield forum, as a few Enfield fans are not to far away.

May be of interest to members or there sons, daughters etc who may be looking at a career at Sea, RN or MN.

PM me if interested will throw a free meal in at lunch or dinner time.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... In order for more of our site members who don't necessarily frequent this forum, to be able to read it, I've moved it to the more appropriate "The Watering Hole OT (Off Topic) Forum", leaving a permanent redirect link here, so it will always display in both forums with a single thread of answers appearing from both forums ...

    Regards,
    Doug

I did my Customs preventive training in 1981 on the Gaelic Ferry which was also laid up in Tilbury Dock in 1981. Then did the advance engine room rummage course in 1985.

Your more than welcome to pop down Lester and see if you can find all the tools that have been lost in the bilges and on the tank tops.

I still have my two long rummage mirrors! Did not hand them in because I am still serving. We had all our old rummage equipment on display at the Crime and Punishment exhibition at the Brewery Museum Romford until a few weeks ago. Due to HMC&E being disbanded in 2005, then the current HMRC, UKBA and SOCA "invented". A lot of the old kit and traditions fell by the way side. If they want to do an official exhibition, they have to ask the staff what they have put away and saved for future use! Officially it all got thrown away.

If you google waterguard ,you will see some of the old Officers have put some interesting stuff on the web site. May be of interest to old seaman.

Thank you for the invitation. Lester
