    (OT) can an American move to Canada and.....

    ok, can an American move to Canadaicon and legally own / purchase firearms? and once said American moves to Canada, does he lose his citizenship in the US?

    reason I ask, i want to move to Canada for a few or more years but not permanently and join the northern rangers. I contacted the rangers and they said I can legally join as long as I am a Canadian citizen.

    Also, a few of my buddies who have friends / family say that Canada still has a workforce unlike the US. there be work up north fellers!!!

    Do you think you can live up north with the walrus and polar bears long enough to become a canadian ranger? it might take a while, good luck.
    to answer (some of) your questions;
    certain guns can be brought over with paperwork for hunting as a tourist and you can own certain firearms when you live here as a canadian citizen.
    cheers, Jim

    You cannot just , "move to Canadaicon". You can visit for a period of time, assuming you are admittable. A DUI can be a game stopper. To work, you need a visa or work permit. NAFTA visa is available if you have a degree or profession on the list and a job offer. Becoming a citizen is much more complex. Google Canadian Immigration. Dual citizenship is permitted, with some caveats. I do not want to crap on your ambition, but what you are proposing is much more difficult than it might appear.

    I lived in the Arctic for thirty years. Rangers tend to be recruited on the basis of expertise on the land. They assist the CF during exercises, operations. It is a very part time activity. You have to be able to make a living. Obtaining Canadianicon citizenship is a serious undertaking.

    Hold on...the "Rangers" are not an arctic thing. I have a headquarters group here in Victoria BC. Their groups are located from here to up top and east of here through Winnipeg and so on...it's not just a snowy prospect.
    Regards, Jim

    Just marry a Canadianicon and you're in like Flynn. I was going to say "a Canadian lady" but that seems to no longer be a given around here!

    Marry a native woman and you might get aboriginal status at the same time. Then you'd really be on the gravy train!

    As fun as that sounds, the wife may not understand haha. I can still try it though.

    C'mon now, if she's understanding enough to move to Northern Canadaicon so you can join the last first world military formation using Lee Enfields, she might well tolerate a little polygamy too. Seems to a work for a lot of LDS folks on both sides of the border.

    A couple of times I've been in a situation where I was assumed to be some kind of polygamist: several women and a bunch of kids with us who could have been mine. It was mighty interesting to see the effect of this appearance on the women we encountered I can tell you! Not what you'd expect at all.
