    1943 Ithaca Double Stamp 1911 a1

Clawson's little book, page 56 makes reference to the slides of some Ithacas bearing the rollmarks M 1911 A1 U.S. Army being used intermittently about 906000 to 916404 and continuing slightly into the 1208674 range.
Does anyone have any more current info about exactly how many pistols actually had these slide installed?

Because the slides were used intermittently, it's pretty well impossible to say how many there were. The information in Mr. Clawson's book is well stated and I believe it's accurate. I've examined one Ithaca with a lower serial number than 900,000 that was an original double-stamp, but that is an exception to the rule.

There are things to do when inspecting these pistols to help determine if they are all original, and not just put together. But that involves a first hand inspection of finish, "P" proofs, flaming bombs, specific wear patterns, etc.
