I've been building fat barrel guns for many years. Mostly using Rem 700, Win 70 and Mauser 98's. Having gotten bit by the Milsurp bug, I've been shooting a lot of Swedish guns including my CG 80, FSR, M96, M96/38 and Norma/Gustuf biathalon rifle. My respect for these guns and the quality of workmanship is quite high. Id like to build a personal gun for my own collection using a M96 reciever, Shilian Fat barrel and a Richards Micro fit Tactical/bench with the 3.5" flat bottom stock, scope or open sights to be determined after the build, most likely Parker Hale open sights. My problem is I couldn't in good faith break up a perfectly good Swedish gun for this project. My question, doe's anybody out there know where I can buy a M96 bolted action? Thanks-SDH

check your local pawn shop or gunsmith. LOTS of sportered Swedes are around that you can rob an action off.

It could be easiest to find a badly sported rifle, and salvage the action from it. Haven't checked to see if they offer them inletted for the Swede, but you might also consider the Boyd Warner Varminter stock. (ww w.boydboys.com)Not quite dramatically styled as the Richards, but a useful stock.
Great minds, Claven2!

Thanks guys, sad to say no pawn shops in this part of New Jersey or for that fact the only gun shop is Sarcos and they are only selling high end M96's. I guess I'll have to wait it out until they start selling the bottom feeders, then I'll have to break down a perfectly good piece of history. Many thanks-SDH

Have you tried Gunbroker or AuctionArms?

I talked to my buddy at Sarcos and he also suggested I wait for a bottom feeder at which time I should get a phone call. I guess it will be worth the wait. I got too used to modern builds where you call, order, receive, build, group and get paid. This is the fun of milsurp. You just don't have much control and the best tool is education-SDH

Several and you really need them there, they have a bit of a reputation for being a bit stiff.SDH

I've had good lluck ordering from Sarco, but you need to call - don't e-mail your order. Also, get someone from the gun desk or parts counter - the receptionist is NOT who you want ot have hand-select your order ;)

I've gotten things like MAS parts selected for scrubbed serial numbers, barrels selected for rifling back when you could export them without state dep't paperwork, etc. Never had a bad experience there actually. Numrich in comparisson is like a bad dream...

Yep, you have to go through the gun room, thereis a fellow there named Bob Murry, a bit gruff old fireman that once he get to know you is really a great guy. I've gotten the best of parts from him with no problems. Randy is real nice but hard to get a hold of and a guy named Bobby Fitz is there part time. I've been doing gunshows with him for 25+ years, a great guy with tremendous knowledge. All in all the front room is pretty good. I've been buying large quantities of stuff there for quite awhile w/o the issues I here other people have. I guess they just want to see my ugly face-SDH:)
